Build a Wine Business
We are dedicated to offering a full-service commercial winery process to help wine enthusiasts turn their passion into a business. Whether you plan to make 100 cases or 2,000 cases, Vintners Own can do all the production necessary.
All the logistics that go into launching and managing a brand are taken care of by Vintners Own professional staff. We take care of all the legal and business aspects of getting your wine to a place where you can then concentrate on the marketing and promotion of your brand.
Capital Requirements
You need to invest in marketing your brand and therefore do not need the huge capital investment normally associated with wine making. A 240 gallon minimum (approximately 1,200 bottles - 100 cases) and a fixed setup fee is all it takes. This leaves you with the possibility of gross margins in the 50% to 100% which is what most premium wineries aim to achieve.
Tax Benefits
Tax laws allow anyone engaged in a business for profit to deduct all reasonable expenses related to that business.
In the winery business the range of allowable expenses is enormous and you may use losses generated during the early years of your new business to offset income from other sources such as wages or investment income.
Allowable expenses, beside production costs, could include:
* A trip to the Sonoma/Napa valleys to evaluate your grape purchase. Once signed up with us our Master Vintner and/or our CEO (both based in Sonoma Valley) will be happy to show you around
* Some wine purchases if they are used in the evaluation of vineyards or wine styling.
* Travel or other entertainment expenses related to the promotion of your wine.
Brand Creation
Here is where you make major decisions as to how you are going to sell your wine.
You should avoid adopting brands with potential problems and consider registering your brand as a trademark. New brands often conflict with existing brands... and the other way around and as conflicts are expensive, both in terms of time and money let us at Vintners Own take care of all the details. If you are pursuing a new brand, we will avoid brands with potential conflicts and start clean. If you have an existing brand Vintners Own will take steps to protect it before conflicts arise.
Packaging Logistics
Getting a label that works for you and ensuring that the capsule and cork are congruent with your brand is important to ensure that your wine is seen in the best light. We will present you with multiple samples of bottles, corks, capsules and then have our designer work with you in creating a label that you can be proud of and will show your wine in the best possible light.
Warehousing and Distribution
Once bottled Vintners Own will store your wine in a separate area (designated as a tax paid area) of the winery. We will process orders, package your wine and organize shipping on your behalf.
We can ship direct to consumers in permissible states and will work with a third party service that ships to states that are harder to deal with. Vintners Own can also ship direct to restaurants and retailers in certain states and can also ship to most distributors.
Licensing & Compliance
Vintners Own is federally licensed and licensed in the State of Texas. We pay all state excise taxes and maintain reporting and compliance on your behalf, including label registration for each of your labels. In addition, Vintners Own keeps you in compliance with changes in federal and state wine laws.
